Georgia man asks to hypnotise friend, stabs him in the neck

A GEORGIA man was arrested today after asking his friend if he wanted to be hypnotised and then stabbing him in the neck.

Jeremiah Gossett, 18, and James Stanley, 19, were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in the Shadowood Mobile Home Park in Acworth, 48km northwest of Atlanta, when Mr Gossett asked Mr Stanley if he wanted to be hypnotised.

Mr Stanley agreed and closed his eyes, after which he felt a sharp pain in his neck, Cherokee Sheriff's spokesman Lieutenant Jay Baker said. When he opened his eyes, Mr Stanley saw Mr Gossett was holding a knife.

Mr Stanley then fled the scene and Mr Gossett turned the knife on himself.

"Gossett apparently got upset and stabbed himself," Lieutenant Baker said, according to the Journal-Constitution.

Mr Gossett was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was treated, released and subsequently arrested.

He was charged with aggravated assault and was being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Centre on $22,200 bond.

'Dating Game' Serial Killer Indicted in NY

(New York Post) - The "Dating Game" killer -- a convicted serial slayer on death row in California -- has been indicted for murdering two New York women in the 1970s, the New York Post reported Thursday, citing a source familiar with the cases.

Rodney Alcala, 67, had long been a suspect in the homicides of Cornelia Crilley and Ellen Hover, both 23, but it was not until recently that prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's Cold Case Homicide Bureau were able to link him to the cases.

It was not immediately clear what led officials to pin the killings on Alcala, who got his nickname after he played a tape of his 1978 appearance on the "Dating Game" show at his trial last year.

He remains in jail in California -- where he was convicted of killing four women and a 12-year-old girl -- but officials are beginning the extradition process to New York, sources said.

Crilley was found raped and strangled in her Upper East Side apartment in 1971, and Hover vanished in 1977 and was found a year later.
